How to Properly Take Care of Your Car’s Paint Job.

Your car may be the biggest investment you’ve ever made, after your home, so it’s only natural to care for it. Regular maintenance is obviously something that should be on top of your list, but this doesn’t guarantee your car will look as beautiful, ten years later. For that you need to make sure its paint job receives the best treatment. Although the best way to restore your vehicle to its former glory is by taking it to a expert auto body shop, there are still a few things you can do on your own.

  1. Wash it Regularly. Washing is good, but only if it’s done properly. A poor job can do more harm than good to your car’s paint job, so you better pay attention. Never use cheap cleaning products! They can affect the finish, resulting in a less shiny paint after just a few washes. Always wash your car with products designed specifically for automotive use.
  2.  Never Skip Drying. Drying is maybe even more important than the washing process itself. The main reason for this is because water spots contain minerals which tend to damage your car’s paint. As a matter of fact, water can affect a paint job more than dust and debris. That’s why you should always dry your vehicle after washing. Using a cotton cloth, wipe down all water spots until the vehicle is completely dry.
  3. Use Clay Bars. Experts recommend using clay bars on a vehicle at least once a month. You can find them at any auto body shop, at reasonable prices. They usually come in kits which also contain a lubricating spray. After you’ve washed and dried your car, spray a portion of your vehicle and then gently slide the clay bar along the surface. Work small areas at a time and make sure you cover the entire surface of the vehicle. You will notice a major change in your car’s paint job.

Unfortunately, clay bars don’t cover scratches or dents. These problems you need to address to a professional auto body shop. We recommend Cliff's Auto Repair as they have experience in fixing scratches and dents, as well as more serious body damage.
